About a third of U.S. adults experience an anxiety disorder at some point in their lives¹

FAQs about Anxiety

  • What are the complications of untreated or chronic anxiety?

Untreated or chronic anxiety leads to serious physical and mental complications, including depression, high blood pressure, heart attack, insomnia. It often results in social isolation, substance misuse, digestive issues, and in severe cases, suicidal ideation.

  • What is your approach towards treatment of chronic anxiety?

Many people turn to alcohol or other substances to manage anxiety symptoms, which can lead to dependency over time. As a clinic with deep expertise in both mental health and addiction medicine — including Suboxone/MAT treatment — Medivira is uniquely equipped to treat both conditions together, offering integrated care that addresses the root cause rather than just the symptoms

  • Are anxiety medications addictive?

Most anxiety medications are not addictive. SSRIs, SNRIs, and Buspirone carry no addiction risk and are safe for long-term use. Benzodiazepines (Xanax, Valium, Ativan) are controlled substances and are addictive if used long term

  • Will I get a guaranteed Benzodiazepine (Xanax, Valium, Ativan) prescription when I have an appointment with a Provider at Medivira?

Benzodiazepines (Xanax, Valium, Ativan) are controlled substances and are addictive if used long term. They carry a real risk of dependence, abuse, and dangerous withdrawal — Medivira uses these very cautiously and only short-term when necessary

  • If I have a history of substance use disorder will the Provider prescribe Benzodiazepines (Xanax, Valium, Ativan) ?

If you have a history of substance use disorder , the Provider may choose to prescribe non-addictive alternatives. This depends on the Providers judgement based on their clinical evaluation

if you get diagnosed with Anxiety disorder , your Provider will develop a treatment plan for you--this includes commonly-prescribed medications like SSRIs which are generally used for long term maintenance treatment. In severe cases, your Provider may put you on a small dose of Benzodiazepine for a short period if they deem it necessary. These are highly controlled substances with a potential for abuse and dependence and therefore, we use utmost caution in prescribing them. Even if you’re diagnosed with Anxiety, you’re not guaranteed to be prescribed a benzodiazepine like Xanax,Lorazepam or Clonazepam (Klonopin) specifically.

This depends entirely on your providers judgment. And again, it’s the doctors’ ultimate decision on the choice of Anxiety medication, not yours. Just be open and honest about what you feel. After all, it’s their job to help make you better, so rest assured they’ll do everything they can to help treat you. This is a conversation that you and your provider will have
